The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is seeking to procure data on UK SMEs trading internationally, in areas which official government trade statistics do not fully cover, for goods and services trade, with regional, sectoral and further breakdowns. Government statistics on SME trade mainly cover goods trade, leaving an evidence gap where services are concerned (which can be as much as 50% by value), and do not provide sufficient insights on regional or sectoral SME trade. The procurement will fill these evidence gaps in the international SME policy area. To obtain a comprehensive evidence base on UK SMEs trading in goods and services, with regional and sectoral breakdowns, in order to fill evidence gaps in the International SME policymakingspace, which will be used to support UK global growth.
