Utilise futures thinking to consider how technological & \r\ngeopolitical developments may affect things in the future (5-10 years).\r\n\r\nThe technologies in scope are:\r\n\r\n- Analytical tools: Techniques, methods, and instruments for analysing and \r\nunderstanding the behaviour and functionality of biological systems, particularly \r\nthose that have been engineered or modified.\r\n\r\n- Automation and robotics: Robotics can be used in all laboratories, including \r\nbiomedical and engineering biology, to automate large parts of the work of \r\nresearchers and companies. In this context robots are used to physically manipulate \r\nitems, ranging from simple hand tools to entirely autonomous laboratories, including \r\ncloud labs.\r\n\r\n- Bioinformatics, data, AI, and supercomputing: Bioinformatics and omics in \r\nengineering biology is the processing, storing, and analysing of biological data using \r\ncomputational tools and statistical methods to interpret large datasets generated by \r\nomics technologies. It can be roughly split into data, software (including AI), and \r\nhardware (including supercomputing).\r\n\r\n- Biological materials, reagents, and feedstocks: This includes unprocessed \r\nprimary commodities, processed primary commodities, processed intermediate \r\ncommodities, enzymes, and chemicals necessary for all engineering biology \r\noperations.\r\n\r\n- Nucleotide and protein synthesis: This includes the synthesis of genetic vectors \r\n(such as RNA, DNA, plasmids) and proteins.\r\n\r\n- Nucleotide and protein sequencing: This includes the sequencing of RNA and \r\nDNA, as well as diagnostic platforms for metagenomics.\r\nThe countries in scope will be a subset of those in the following list: USA, Australia, Canada, \r\nDenmark, France, Germany, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore & Switzerland.
