Description

Health Education England, Midlands covers the West Midlands and East Midlands. HEE's aim is to ensure the security of workforce supply and to continuously improve the quality of education, training, and development. HEE also aims to enable the health and care workforce to respond effectively to the needs of patients, carers and families.

HEE in partnership with other stakeholder organisations has a commitment to support the development of Primary Care workforce. Much of the healthcare provided takes place away from an acute setting and it is vital that the nurses in primary care can deliver high quality care and the future service transformation required to deliver the Five Year Forward View.

There is a significant challenge in attracting and retaining the healthcare workforce within the county of Lincolnshire in the East Midlands. Healthcare organisations within the county have found that recruitment from the local population has a positive impact on the retention of the healthcare workforce which is why there is a requirement for the education provision to be Lincolnshire based or through blended learning programmes

The General Practice Nursing (GPN) Fundamentals programme allows the registered nursing workforce to provide and develop a mix of clinical and theoretical skills to work in a General Practice setting.

This education and training provision will help support the implementation of The General Practice Nursing Workforce Development Plan which has been developed by HEE and highlights amongst its recommendations raising the profile of the General Practice Nursing workforce and improving the retention of this workforce.
