Highcliffe Castle is a nineteenth century historic house built by Lord Stuart de Rothesay from materials salvaged from French medieval buildings. In the late 1960s two fires rendered the building derelict. In the 1990s a ten phase programme of repairs began and the castle is currently involved in phase seven of this. Highcliffe Castle is owned and managed by Christchurch Borough Council.

The next phase includes considerable work on the ground floor and as part of this the shop and reception space is to be increased from 27.4 square metres to 54.8 square metres.

The financial contribution from the shop is, and will be, an important income stream for the property.
