Description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] requirement is for a low temperature system for use in primary standard Josephson voltage work. This work uses superconducting devices that must be cooled below 5 K in a low vibration, magnetically shielded space. The system must be cryogen-free as the purpose of this upgrade is to eliminate the health and safety issues related to the existing liquid helium-based systems and remove the reliance on the regular supply of liquid helium. The cryostat must provide flexibility so that it can be configured for various different experiments. It will be used as a research system so the ability to change samples quickly is required. It will also be used as a primary standard so the ability to run continuously at low temperature is also required.
